Affiliate commerce is usually part of the content experience.

In China, a recommendation can move from video to checkout without leaving the platform.

Affiliate e-commerce lets a creator recommend products through approved platform surfaces and earn commission on eligible attributed sales. The product link, shopping bag, storefront, checkout, logistics, and customer service often live inside the same app—so the viewer experiences content, discovery, and purchase as one journey.

The real creator skill is not adding more products. It is creating useful, trusted context: why the product matters, who it fits, how it works, and how the audience can make an informed purchase.

Affiliate loop

Creator trust → useful content → in-app product discovery → valid order → settled commission → better product selection

Educational note: eligibility, product-link tools, commission rules, tax, merchant responsibilities, and platform requirements change. Treat this guide as an operating framework; verify the current platform and legal requirements for each actual campaign.
1

How the Money Flow Works

A commission is the result of a documented transaction chain. It is not paid simply because a product appears in a video.

1. Creator content

A short video, post, livestream, review, demonstration, or recommendation creates product interest.

2. Commerce entry

The viewer opens a product card, storefront, in-app link, live shopping bag, mini-program, or other approved purchase route.

3. Merchant transaction

The merchant/platform handles product information, checkout, payment, delivery, customer service, and returns under the applicable arrangement.

4. Attribution

Platform rules determine whether the order is attributed to the creator, campaign, link, live room, product selection, or another source.

5. Settlement

After the platform/merchant validates orders and accounts for refunds, cancellations, and other adjustments, the commission is calculated and paid under the agreement.

Creator lens: ask where attribution is measured, who holds the reporting dashboard, which events invalidate a commission, and when the amount becomes final.
2

In-App Commerce Surfaces

Product cards & links

A post or video sends the viewer to a specific product page or approved commerce destination. The best use is a clear recommendation tied to the content itself.

Creator storefronts

A creator organizes products by routine, category, season, price, or content series. A storefront should feel curated, not like an unfiltered catalogue.

Live shopping bag

During a livestream, viewers can see product entries and buy while questions, demonstrations, price explanations, and comparisons are happening in real time.

The exact surface and toolset differ by platform, creator eligibility, category, and merchant arrangement. Design content around a permitted purchase path rather than assuming every link type is available.

Affiliate Models Creators Use

Product-card affiliate

Good for repeatable content with clear product context.

A creator attaches or directs viewers to selected products in an approved in-app commerce surface.

Storefront / showcase

Good for lifestyle, utility, and category-based trust.

A curated collection of products lets viewers browse a creator’s recommendations beyond one post.

Livestream shopping

Good when explanation, comparison, urgency, and audience interaction matter.

The creator or host demonstrates products live and directs viewers to a real-time shopping bag or product list.

Sponsored affiliate hybrid

Good when both awareness and conversion are required; terms must separate fixed fee, commission, and usage rights.

A brand pays a fixed campaign fee and/or offers a performance commission.

Content-led conversion

Good for products that need education rather than impulse selling.

A tutorial, routine, review, or series creates search and demand; the commerce path captures interested viewers later.

4

Product Selection Is Audience Protection

A commission rate should be one input, not the decision. Every poor product recommendation consumes the creator’s trust and can create refund, complaint, or compliance risk.

Before choosing a product

  • Does it fit a real audience need and creator format?
  • Can the creator test or understand it honestly?
  • Is merchant identity, product information, price, stock, and customer service clear?
  • Are category permissions, safety documents, and claims suitable for the proposed content?

Build a credible recommendation

  • Show usage, limits, and relevant comparison—not only praise
  • Explain who it is and is not for
  • Use approved, supportable product claims
  • Avoid manufactured urgency, fake reviews, or promises outside the merchant information
5

Commission, Attribution & Settlement

Creators should be able to trace their earnings from the product recommendation to the final payout. Get the commercial terms and reporting structure before publishing.

QuestionWhat to clarify
Commission baseIs it based on paid order value, delivered order value, net of refunds, net of discounts, a category rate, or another defined basis?
Attribution windowHow long after the click/view/live interaction can an eligible order be credited? Platform and campaign rules vary.
Valid orderClarify cancellation, return/refund, fraud, duplicate attribution, unpaid orders, coupon use, and customer-service disputes.
Settlement dateWhen will preliminary data appear, when is it final, and when does payment reach the creator or agency?
ReportingThe creator needs product-level orders/GMV where available, commission rate, refunds, adjustments, platform fees, tax, and final payout evidence.

Do not confuse the numbers

GMV × eligible commission basis × agreed rate − refunds/adjustments/charges = potential creator commission

6

Livestream Commission Mechanics

Live commerce can compress demonstration, objection handling, product comparison, and conversion into one session. It also increases the need for preparation: the live room creates a permanent record of what was said and sold.

Before going live

  • Product list, price, stock, merchant identity, and customer service confirmed
  • Claims, demonstrations, comparison language, and category limits approved
  • Commission/attribution and product-order sequence understood
  • Host, moderator, escalation, and post-live reporting owner assigned

During and after live

  • Show product/price information through approved means
  • Do not make misleading performance, safety, scarcity, or comparison statements
  • Moderate questions and preserve issue records
  • Retain replay, product list, settlement report, refunds, and campaign evidence
China’s 2026 livestream-e-commerce rules place specific responsibilities on live-room operators, marketing personnel, and service institutions; live content that constitutes commercial advertising must comply with the Advertising Law. Treat product and claim review as a core production step.
7

Operate the Affiliate Funnel

1. Match content to intent

Use discovery content for curiosity, tutorials for understanding, reviews for consideration, and livestream/collection pages for active buying intent.

2. Keep the commerce path simple

One video should not create five competing calls to action. Direct viewers to the relevant approved product or collection.

3. Read audience questions

Comments reveal fit objections, size/usage uncertainty, price sensitivity, and product education gaps. Use them to improve the next content.

4. Review quality, not only revenue

Track return/refund patterns, complaints, repeat product demand, saves, questions, and audience sentiment alongside orders and commission.

5. Improve the assortment

Keep products that genuinely fit the creator’s audience; retire products that create dissatisfaction even if their short-term commission looks attractive.

8

Compliance & Consumer Protection

Affiliate commerce combines content, advertising, and online transactions. The details depend on the role a creator, agency, merchant, and platform actually performs. Build a written workflow for product verification, approved claims, disclosure, recordkeeping, and consumer issue escalation.

Creator / agency controls

  • Verify the counterparty and product materials appropriate to your role
  • Keep written commercial terms and approved claims
  • Avoid false or misleading commercial promotion
  • Escalate product-quality, complaint, refund, and claim issues promptly

Platform / merchant controls to understand

  • Identity and product-information display
  • Transaction, payment, logistics, refund, and customer-service records
  • Platform enforcement rules and remedies
  • Order attribution, commission and settlement definitions
9

Common Affiliate Mistakes

  • !Treating affiliate commerce as a list of links instead of a trust and product-education system.
  • !Choosing products only for headline commission while ignoring quality, fit, fulfillment, price, or return risk.
  • !Promising results, discounts, stock, product performance, or safety claims that the merchant has not verified.
  • !Confusing GMV with creator earnings; orders, refunds, platform fees, tax, and commission rate determine payout.
  • !Using products or links without confirming the platform’s current eligibility, commerce access, and affiliate rules.
  • !Beginning a livestream without product information, price basis, merchant identity, customer-service path, and claim approvals.
  • !Not retaining screenshots, product pages, livestream replay, settlement reports, and written commercial terms.
  • !Letting an agency or merchant control the only commerce analytics and settlement data.

SAIKO AFFILIATE RULE

A good affiliate recommendation earns twice: once in commission, and again in audience trust.

Use in-app commerce as a service to your audience. Curate products carefully, explain them honestly, know the attribution and settlement rules, and improve from real customer feedback.

The goal is not to attach a product to every video. The goal is to make the right product useful in the right moment.
